We believe God is calling us to be a WARM congregation: a people who embrace one another in unconditional love, a people who embrace those in need with the care they desperately seek, a people who embrace all those we meet so that all may know God's deep and abiding love for them.

OUR SAVIOUR WINS 2010 CO-ED CONTINENTAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

  • Our Saviour CoEd Softball Team won the league tournament championship 14-4 in five innings at Winged Deer Park on June 28th.  It was the opponent’s first loss of the year!  There were lots and lots of hits and great defensive play:  Clint Estep hit a grand slam in the top of the first and then was at the beginning end of a triple play in the bottom of the first to stop Central Baptist’s rally!  Everyone played well and Coach Sean Golden pitched another great game!
  •  Thanks for those through the season who came out to cheer on the team!  Thanks, too, for the huge crowd who came out for this final game!  You inspired us!

Summer Study:  “Grace—not just a table prayer anymore!”

  • Beginning in July, Pastor Jim will offer a study of different topics about the Christian Church (the part that has a Lutheran perspective) on Tuesday nights  at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday mornings at 10 a.m.

•    July 27 and 29 – “Hope—God’s invisible gift!” (Text:  Hebrews 11:1)

•    August  3 and 5 – “Love—an illusion, or, the center of the world?” (Text:  John 3:16-17)

  • In the midst of where we are in the ELCA, it is time that we take a look at what we believe and how we should respond to the world in which we live; I believe that the world goes through changes, but that Holy Scripture does not.  The Word is the only constant we have to deal with a changing world.  But again, what DO we believe?
  • Come and study together!

PRAYER FOR MISSIONS!

  •  Beginning Sunday, July 4, 2010, we will be offering special prayers for each of our own synod’s “Mission Partners” (Current ”Mission Developers” of new or redeveloping congregations in the Southeastern Synod).  We will lift up the pastor’s name and the congregational name, and, supply you with the addresses (home address and e-mail address) so that, during their week, you can respond with a letter of encouragement and thanksgiving to them directly.  (The office will mail a letter to the church the week before  to let them know we are praying for them!)  We want our Mission Partners to know that they are loved, appreciated, and remembered!  What they do is incredibly hard work for Christ.

Sunday, July 25-Saturday, July 31

  • Pastor Linda Boston
  • Trinity Lutheran Church, 6401 Highway 18 W, Jackson, MS 39209
  • E-mail: TrinityChurch_jxn@att.net    Web-site: www.tlcjackson.org                (redeveloping congregation)
  •  Get those cards and letters ready to go—and—send them during the week we pray for them.  We want to “overload” them with joy and peace!  Thanks for your help in this!

PRODUCTS OF THE MONTH

  • Many families travel far from home to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children. Hospital treatment can last one day, one month or even longer. A Ronald McDonald House keeps families together when they need it most by offering them a comfortable, temporary residence in proximity to a medical facility. Each Ronald McDonald House provides a warm, supportive alternative to costly hotels and uncomfortable hospital waiting rooms.
  •  Families enjoy home-cooked meals and can sleep in private bedrooms at any of the Ronald McDonald Houses. Some now include special suites for immunosuppressive children and their families, and for those who need to stay for an extended period. Many Houses also provide accredited education programs, recreational activities and non-clinical support services. In return, families are asked to make a donation from $5 to $25 per day depending on the House. But if that is not possible, they stay for free.
  •  At OSLC, we collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House and deliver them on a regular basis.  Why “Pull-a Tab” for the House and not save the whole can?  The tab seems so insignificant.  But, it’s pure gold for the House.  The tab is a higher-grade of aluminum, isn’t as difficult to collect and store, and not as messy  as the whole can.
  • Collecting tabs doesn’t require a special container.  A paper bag, plastic bag, shoe box, trash bag, plastic drink bottle, water container or a gift bag is all you need!  You don’t have to be a certain age, live in a certain place or have special training to collect tabs!  So, become a part of the “House that Love Built” and start pulling those tabs!
  •   See the Social Ministry bulletin board or the downtown clinic page for a complete list. To get to the downtown clinic page go to the our saviour home page click on ministires page then click on helping.

   FOOD PANTRY

  • Thank you for your support of our Food Pantry.
  • For a list of items needed go to the food pantry page under ministries and helping. To get to the food pantry page go to the our saviour home page click on ministries page then click on helping.
  • 20 bags of groceries were handed out in May.
  •  Do you know what is included in each food bag?

1 box crackers                         1 jar peanut butter
1 box cereal                             2 boxes macaroni & cheese
1 box spaghetti noodles          1 jar/can spaghetti sauce
2 cans green beans                 1 can corn
1 can other vegetable              2 cans “protein” beans
2 cans soup                              1 can fruit
2-3 envelopes dry milk             1 bag rice, beans, etc.
    2 meats (2 cans tuna=1 meat)
1-2 “specials” if we have any (Jello, cake mix, cookies, etc.)

As you shop for groceries, continue to remember the food pantry.  We can use all items!

OUTREACH FOR THE WEEK

  • Host a “new neighbors BBQ” when someone new moves into the neighborhood.
  • Offer a prayer before eating.  Be public in a subtle way about your faith.

A REMINDER

  •  We have been encouraging OSLC members to contact people they have not seen in a while.  If you’ve missed seeing someone lately, just give them a call to let them know they have been missed!  Perhaps they have been ill, or just need some encouragement!  Our Shepherds Committee is also contacting those who have missed three or more Sundays.
  •  An important part of our caring ministry at OSLC is to provide meals when needed for those who have just come home from the hospital or are having health problems, as well as when a death occurs in a family.  If you would like to help with important ministry, please call Barbara Diehl, 929-8908.  Thank you!

Additional information and enrollment forms are in the narthex.
