About the CROP Walk...

On Saturday, September 20, 2008 on the grounds of the VA Medical Center, Johnson City joined thousands of communities around the country in the CROP Hunger Walk.  CROP Walks (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) raise money for local and world hunger relief as well as disasters in the United States like the Gulf coast hurricanes and flooding in the Midwest. Organizers of the 1st Annual Johnson City CROP Walk are members of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Twenty-five percent of the funds raised by the 5 K walk event will support the local hunger and poverty programs of Second Harvest Food Bank. The other seventy-five percent will support the national and international relief & development programs of Church World Service.

Church World Service (http://www.cropwalk.org/), a cooperative ministry of 35 Protestant, Anglican, and Orthodox denominations, works in 80 countries supporting relief efforts such as refugees in Darfur, famine victims in Niger, Tsunami victims in Indonesia, and schools, health clinics, agricultural assistance in the worlds poorest communities.
