"We will be leaders in seeking out all people in need of aid for the body, mind, and/or soul so they may feel the love of Christ through our ministries."

Blood Drives

The Social Ministry committee hosts periodic blood drives at OSLC.  The Carolinas Blood Services Region brings their bloodmobile and sets up in the fellowship hall for blood collection.  The blood drives are held on Sunday mornings to allow donors to give blood before, between or after church services.

Give the gift of life.  Each unit of blood donated can help three other persons.

If you are not a donor already, please become one and encourage friends and family to do likewise.  Anyone at least 17 years old, weighing 110 pounds and in general good health can donate.  There is no upper age limit for donation.  Qualified Red Cross personnel evaluate all candidates prior to collection.  It doesn't hurt, (anymore than a needle stick) and you usually feel the same after a donation as before.  Plus, you get the satisfaction of helping other people.

If you are unable to donate blood, we still need a donation of time from you!  Help spread the word about our blood drives and recruit prospective donors. Volunteer to make reminder phone calls prior to schedules drives.  Donate an hour of time during the blood drive by working in the canteen or signing in prospective donors.  Provide a snack for our donors.  (It's been said that some of our members only donate blood to get the good treats provided in the canteen:!)

You can donate blood every 56 days but only 5% of the eligible population donates blood.
