Downtown Clinic
On March 26, 1990, the first homeless client was seen at the Downtown Clinic. After several years of studying and organizing, the clinic was opened with nurse practitioners and the College of Nursing at ETSU. ETSU Family Medicine Department served as medical back-up.
The Clinic is now located on East Myrtle Avenue and has evolved into a Community Health Center with the mission to improve the health of the underserved members of the community. Open 5 days a week, the clinic provides comprehensive primary care services to persons of all ages, including management of acute and chronic health problems, prevention and screening visits, mental health care and prenatal care. No person is turned away because of the inability to pay and 80% of the clinic's clients have no health insurance and have family incomes below 100% of the federal poverty level.
There is a Day Center on Fairview Avenue which provides other services for the homeless population of Johnson City
