Good Samaritan
Good Samaritan Ministries was founded in 1985 and is an inter-faith, community based ministry. The purpose of the ministry is to provide relief for the poor, the sick and the destitute.
Good Samaritan Ministries serves low-income individuals and families, homeless, elderly, disabled veterans and others. It covers Washington, Carter, Greene, Johnson, Sullivan and Unicoi counties in Tennessee.
Good Samaritan Ministries relies on donations and gifts from individuals, churches, civic organizations and corporate sponsors. Government financial sid provides for rent, utilities, prescriptions and other basic needs. All gifts are tax deductible.
Many of the programs in our area were started with the help and guidance of Good Samaritan Ministries. A few of the programs under the Good Sam umbrella are: a food pantry, programs for children, a day center, rent/utilities assistance, housing/home repairs, temporary shelters, medical and dental services, a women's prison ministry and their "adopt an elderly person or family" at Thanksgiving and/or Christmas time.
Anyone needing any of these services is encouraged to call or visit Good Samaritan Ministries. They also have a thrift shop (Heaven Sent) which is located in back of their facility on North Roan Street. They accept donations of clothing, furniture and any household items you may want to give.
