"We will be leaders in seeking out all people in need of aid for the body, mind, and/or soul so they may feel the love of Christ through our ministries."

Lutheran World Relief

ELCA Hunger Appeal has the following basic goals:
1. Immediate relief for the hungry
2. Sustainable development to alleviate hunger
3. Advocate for justice
4. Educate ELCA members

To carry out these goals we do the following:
1. Provide immediate relief for the hungry
2. Support partner organization with grants which help fund over 200 relief and development projects in the U.S.
3. Teach ELCA members about the cause and solutions of hunger
4. Carry out active projects in the environment stewardship
5. Carry out advocacy in the ELCA Washington Office, and through Bread for the World
6. Examine our own lifestyles

How to Give to World Hunger
1. Through individual gifts through your congregations, using the pew envelopes.
2. Use the ELCA Good Gifts catalogue
3. Planned giving/major gifts

World Hunger receives NO benevolence money from the budget of the Church at Large.  A large portion of Hunger funds helps make up the core budgets of Lutheran World Relief, and Lutheran World Federation.  LWR had a monthly giving program-either by use of credit card, or electronic transfer through your checking account.

Example:  just $.50 a day provides 6 months support and care for AIDS orphans in Uganda.
In a world of constant need you keep us ready to help, because, regardless of the season, the economy or other events:  Hunger never stops, Sickness never ends, and the poor are with us always.  Jesus said:  "You give them something to eat."
